Ron Jirsa is the Associate Head Coach of the Minnesota Gophers. Ron Jirsa and Tubby Smith have worked together several times in their long coaching careers.

Smith and Jirsa first worked together at Virginia Commonwealth during the 1984-1985 season. The Rams finished 26-6 that season, winning the Sun Belt Conference title and playing in the NCAA Tournament. They reunited when Tubby Smith hired Ron Jirsa as an assistant at Tulsa for the 1991-92 season. The third time was at Georgia in 1995 with Tubby Smith until Ron Jirsa was head coach from 1997 to 1999.

Ron Jirsa's coaching career began in 1983 at Connecticut College. After other stints at Delaware, Belmont Abbey, Gardner Webb, Dayton, and Marshall, Ron Jirsa arrived at Minnesota in 2007.
