Maurice Walker was born on November 21, 1991 in Scarborough, Ontario.

Maurice Walker attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a senior. Maurice Walker led the Bobcats to a 35-5 record and state championship. Maurice Walker is also a three-time member of the Canadian Junior National Team. He led his team to the finals of the 2009 Nike Global Challenge with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Walker was a freshman for the 2010-2011 season. He played seven minutes in his collegiate debut against Wofford. He scored his first collegiate points against North Carolina in Puerto Rico. During his freshman season, Walker established career-highs of 10 points, four assists and 15 minutes played. Walker was a 2010-2011 letterwinner.
