Lawrence McKenzie
LAWRENCE MCKENZIE GRADUATED IN 2008 AND SIGNED A DEAL TO PLAY BASKETBALL IN THE BALKAN LEAGUE. Lawrence McKenzie was born on April 29, 1985 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. McKenzie joined the Gophers men’s basketball team in 2005-06 and redshirted as a transfer from Oklahoma. Lawrence McKenzie had a career year in his junior season as a Gopher, as he achieved Honorable Mention All-Big Ten status. He played in all 31 games and started 28 of them, averaging 14.9 points, good for seventh in the Big Ten. In the same year, McKenzie set a Minnesota Gopher record for three-pointers made in a season with 78. He is the owner of nine 20-point efforts in his career, and was named team captain his junior season. McKenzie played an exceptional game versus Ohio State on February 18, when he dropped 22 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in 39 minutes. He also scored 25 points at UAB on December 5. Lawrence McKenzie played his sophomore and freshman years of college ball at Oklahoma. He came off the bench in 26 of 32 games his sophomore year, and was named to the Big 12’s All-Reserve Team. He averaged 9.5 points, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game. McKenzie started 20 games in his freshman year and averaged 8.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.7 steals. Lawrence McKenzie is a graduate of Minneapolis Henry High School, where he averaged 22.5 points, 7.4 assists and 3 steals a game as a senior. He was a first team all-state selection and led his team to a fourth straight Class AAA state title. Lawrence McKenzie is a business and marketing education major at the University of Minnesota.
