Kevin Payton
GRADUATED SPRING 2009 Kevin Payton was born on December 7, 1986 in Austria. Payton came to the United States before his junior year of high school. He joined the Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball team in 2006-07 for his freshman season. In 2007-2008, Kevin Payton had a solid sophomore season with the Gopher basketball team. Kevin Payton racked up many assists including 6 in 9 minutes against UC Riverside. He had the most playing time (19 minutes) in a match-up against Illinois. Kevin Payton played in all 31 games and made 13 starts during his freshman year. His numbers on the season include 2.2 points and 2.5 assists per game. Payton dished out five or more assists five times. His best game of the season was a 12 point, five rebound; eight assist effort in 38 minutes versus Penn State on January 27. Payton made his first career start versus North Dakota State on November 13, scoring three points and dealing six assists with seven rebounds in 30 minutes. Kevin Payton is a graduate of Camden High School in New Jersey. Payton was an All-South Jersey First Team player by the Philadelphia Inquirer. His 26.1 points per game as a senior was good for third in south New Jersey. Payton led his club to the state championship game his senior year. He also led his track team to a state track championship. Kevin Payton is a Youth studies major at the University of Minnesota. He is the son of Charles Payton and Angelica Hittinger.
