Damian Johnson graduated after the 2009-2010 basketball season. He now plays in the Miami Heat summer league.
Damian Johnson was born on March 9, 1987 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. He came to the Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball season in 2006-07 for his freshman season.
Damian Johnson saw action in 28 games in 2006-07, including four starts. He averaged 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds on the season. He scored a career-high eight points and was 2-of-3 from three-point range in seven minutes versus Southern Illinois on November 24. His first action as a Golden Gopher came when he played eight minutes versus North Dakota State on November 13.
Damian Johnson had a standout sophomore season in 2007-2008 with 8 games scoring double digits. He also stole the ball an impressive 59 times, the 9th highest amount in Minnesota Gopher basketball history. His agressiveness on the court has become a trademark of his style of play.
Damian Johnson is a graduate of Thibodaux High School in Louisiana. His career high school numbers included 16.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game. Johnson was McDonald’s All-American nominee, one of the highest honors for a high school player. Johnson was also named a 5A All-State player by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association.
Damian Johnson is majoring in communication studies at the University of Minnesota. He is the son of David and Yvonne Johnson.
