Chip Armelin is from Sulphur, Louisiana and played for Sulphur high school. Armelin came to the Gophers in 2010 as a freshman.

Armelin made his collegiate debut against Wofford where he scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field in 12 minutes. He continued his success at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, averaging 3.3 ppg and 2.7 rpg. Aremlin scored his 100th point as a Gopher at Iowa in February of 2011. Armelin was a letterwinner in his freshman season.
