The Minnesota Golden Gophers will move into their new stadium for the 2009 season at the new stadium TCF Bank Stadium that is currently being built on what is a new 75 acres to the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota. This new area around the TCF Bank Stadium should also include a stop on the light rail transit line by 2014. TCF Bank Stadium will be a horseshoe-style stadium with the open end facing west towards campus and the Minneapolis skyline. One of the reasons the University of Minnesota argued for a new stadium is that there was not a college atmosphere playing off-campus at the Metrodome. The architectural team had a goal to make it really feel collegiate. The main purpose of TCF Bank Stadium is for home games for the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, but other uses for TCF Bank Stadium will include the University of Minnesota Marching Band. Other possibilities include intramural sports, graduation ceremonies, High School League state tournaments, concerts. If the Minnesota Vikings are able to get approval for a new stadium, they could also use TCF Bank Stadium for home games until the new stadium could be built.
